What is supported education and the veteran's readiness and employment program (VR&E)?
- Supported education helps individuals with health-related disabilities be successful in an academic setting.
- The VA has a program called VR&E that helps veterans with job training, employment, accommodations, supported education, entrepreneurship and more.
- VR&E when used for education provides financial assistance, healthcare, housing, and supportive programs to help you succeed. (va.gov)
- Any Veterans who is eligible for the post 911 GI bill and has a service-connected disability of 10% and higher that limits their ability to work can apply. (VA.gov)
- A recent study showed that service-related health conditions such as PTSD and depression have been associated with poor academic performance. (Reblin&Uchino,2008)
- VR&E helps veterans overcome barriers and has been shown to improve self- advocacy skills with supported education services. (Reblin&Uchino,2008)
- In addition, VR&E does not affect your GI bill entitlement, you can use both if you start off with VR&E!
